How It Works

Selling a Watch From Merseyside

Wherever you are in Merseyside, selling to us works the same way and the offer is based on the watch, not your postcode. Start with a free online valuation; if you are happy to go ahead we send a free, fully insured postal kit you can hand in at any Post Office across Liverpool, St Helens, Birkenhead, Southport or anywhere else in the area. You are paid by bank transfer the same day we receive and authenticate your watch.

A Note on Merseyside’s Watchmaking Heritage

Prescot and the Lancashire Watch Company

Prescot, now in Merseyside, was for centuries the beating heart of the English watch-tool and movement-parts trade, supplying components and rough movements to finishing makers across Lancashire, Coventry and London. It was home to the Lancashire Watch Company, which from 1889 pioneered the machine-made, fully interchangeable watch parts that let Britain answer cheaper foreign competition, and the Prescot Museum still tells that watchmaking and tool-making story today. The Lancashire Watch Company made complete watches as well as parts before it closed in the early twentieth century.

John Wyke, master tool-maker

The area also produced John Wyke (1729–1787), a renowned maker of watch tools, lathes and wheel-cutting engines who was born near Prescot and buried there. Wyke produced one of the first illustrated mail-order tool catalogues and supplied figures such as Josiah Wedgwood and James Watt, before later moving his business to Liverpool — a reminder that the district helped equip watchmakers far beyond its own workshops. Wyke’s Liverpool workshop became one of the best-known tool suppliers in the country.
